HISTORY

Humberside Airport started as a Royal Air Force base in 1941 and it was known as RAF Kirmington during the Second World War.  After the war, the site was abandoned and remained unused until the 1960s when a small airline began operating flights from the base. In 1969, the local council bought the land and decided to turn it into a passenger airport. Development and expansion took place until 1974 when the terminal was finally built and opened to the public.  The county of Humberside was created in 1972 and as a result the airport was renamed Humberside Airport.  Many developments continued in the following years including a new restaurant, runway extension and executive lounges.  In 1996, to accommodate the increasing amount of traffic both arriving and departing from the airport, the Humberside Airport parking facilities were expanded.

Throughout the 1990s and into the 21st century, the number of Humberside Airport and the Humberside Airport parking patrons have experienced continued growth.  In 2003, Humberside Airport serviced more than 500,000 passengers.

Humberside Airport is located about ten miles west of Grimsby and 15 miles south of Kingston-upon-Hull.  Nowadays there are a number of ways to get to the terminal and Humberside Airport parking areas.  The site is accessible by bus, by train, by taxi and of course, by private car.  Humberside Airport parking is available on-site at the airport, so no transfers are necessary, and a person can park securely for short or long stays.
