DUTY FREE
Major duty free outlets
The duty free facilities near the London City Airport parking area are located within the departure lounge in the Nuance Shopping Outlet. Thanks to the absence of exorbitant import and export taxes on all its products, the duty free shop has become one of the traveller’s favourite shopping destinations, not just in the London City Airport, but in flight hubs across the globe. Items from souvenirs, snacks and cigarettes to alcohol, perfumes, colognes and clothing can be bought for that perfect bargain gift for a friend, a family member or even for yourself before heading out to the London City Airport parking bays.
Duty free limits
Duty Free limits are necessary in order to ensure that passengers do not walk out of the terminal building intending to use their purchases for commercial gain. For passengers travelling from outside the European Union into the United Kingdom, the custom’s allowances for the London City airport are:
• Perfume (50g) or Eau de Toilette (250ml).
• Tobacco (250g): Two cartons of cigarettes (200), 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos.
• Alcohol: Two litres of alcoholic beverages that are less than 22% (E.g. still wine). Only one litre is allowed for beverages containing more than 22% alcohol (spirits and liqueurs).
Hot items
The Duty Free store is a haven for bargain shoppers coming into the airport via the London City Airport parking facilities. Fragrances, cosmetics, a range of electronics, tobacco, alcoholic spirits, clothing and food such as chocolates, nuts and other snacks can all be bought for substantially lower prices. So, whether passengers are looking to buy a last minute gift for a friend, or stock up on a favourite perfume, a bottle of gin and perhaps some delicious Belgium chocolate for 17% less than anywhere else, the Duty Free store has a great range of hot items for sale.
Carry on luggage
There are a number of regulations that need to be adhered to once a passenger has made a stop at one of the Duty Free Outlets within the terminal building. All alcoholic and tobacco products purchased at the Duty Free need to be transported in the hand luggage and kept in the sealed bag provided, through customs. This is so that they may regulate the quantities purchased by passengers. Items purchased at the Duty Free store that may constitute a weapon by virtue of being sharp, heavy or in any way hazardous (tools, electrical items, etc.) should not be taken in the carry on luggage to avoid security concerns.
