DUTY FREE
Major duty free outlets
Just beyond the expanse of London Luton Airport parking, lies incredible duty free shopping opportunities. Many popular shops can be found in the departure lounge including Boots (pharmaceuticals), Monsoon (fashion), Accessorize (fashion and accessory) and WHSmith (books, magazines and newspapers). Items including wines and spirits, designer label clothes, books and fragrances, tobacco products and various souvenirs and accessories can all be purchased duty and/or tax free. The Duty Free store located beyond the London Luton Airport parking facilities and in departure lounge is a fantastic place to pick up gifts for friends, family and yourself at a substantially lower price.
Duty free limits
Despite the temptation to take huge amounts of duty free stock with you, there are limitations on the amount of items passengers can take out of and into the United Kingdom. For passengers travelling within the European Union, these limitations are generally high enough so as not to impede one’s spending impulse:
Not more than 3200 cigarettes, 200 cigars, 400 cigarillos or three kilograms of tobacco,
Not more than 90 litres of wine, 110 litres of beer, 20 litres of port or sherry or 10 litres of spirits.
These limitations are heavily regulated and even stricter when travelling from outside an EU country.
Hot items
The Duty Free store provides an incredible selection of goods and products without the added financial weight of 17% taxes. Perfumes and colognes, wine, beer and liquor, cigarettes and cigars, designer clothing labels, souvenirs and trinkets, tools and electrical appliances: all of these items of luxury (and in some case, necessity) can be bought at a bargain price from the London Luton Airport Duty Free stores. Passengers on their way to the Luton airport parking facilities can always make a swing by the Duty Free to buy themselves a bottle of their favourite liqueur, or perhaps to treat a partner, friend or family member with an otherwise expensive gift.
Carry-on luggage
Airports around the globe – not least of all London Luton Airport – have become fairly strict upon the items passengers are allowed to take in their carry-on luggage. There are lists of regulations pertaining to the volume of liquids passengers are permitted to take onto the plane and so one would need to be wary of the amount of perfume, liquor, wine and beer they purchase at the Duty Free Store. While most items bought here will make it through customs in one’s carry-on luggage as long as they're kept unopened and inside the sealed bag provided at the point of purchase, passengers will need to be careful about transporting objects that could be perceived as potential weapons, such as tools, electrical appliances and anything sharp or containing corrosive chemical agents.
