DUTY FREE

Major Duty Free Outlets

Newcastle Airport offers a great number and variety of shops at which passengers can indulge in a bit of tax-free retail therapy prior to departure. Passengers can pop into WH Smiths, Biza Tax & Duty Free, JD Sports or Dixons for high quality and cost-effective gifts, souvenirs, snacks and in-flight reading materials. Essentials (for many) such as tobacco, wine, alcoholic spirits and local beer can also be purchased at the Newcastle Airport’s Duty Free Stores for a fraction of the cost. Duty Free Outlets are widely available in the terminal building, very near to the Newcastle Airport Parking facilities.

Duty Free Limits

Unfortunately, duty free limits have been brought into affect at the Newcastle Airport in order to prevent passengers from using products they have purchased from the Duty Free store for commercial gain. Duty Free store items are meant entirely for personal use by the purchaser, not to be sold at a higher price outside of the airport. Therefore, for flights within the European Union, Customs Officers will more than likely inquire about purchases exceeding the following limits: 3kg of tobacco, 3200 cigarettes, 200 cigars, 400 cigarillos, 110 litres of beer, 10 litres of spirits, 20 litres of fortified wine (port or sherry) and 90 litres of wine.

Hot Items

There is no better place to stock up on those essentials and luxuries than at the Duty Free stores, which are located just beyond the Newcastle Airport parking facilities. Top-of-the-line designer sunglasses, beauty and skincare products, fragrances, clothing and jewellery can all be purchased for a substantial amount less than anywhere else thanks to the absence of import tax duties. Tobacco products, such as cigars, cigarettes and cigarillos as well as alcoholic beverages (wine, beer, Champagne, liqueurs and spirits) can also be bought at complete bargain prices. The Duty Free Store is also a great place to stock up on treats, snacks and reading material for the flight out.

Carry-on Luggage

There are certain rules and regulations applied to duty-free goods transported in the carry-on luggage. Each item should be carried inside its original container - inside a sealed bag if it contains liquid – and with a receipt bearing the purchase date attached. Duty Free items that are prohibited from being taken onto the airplane in a passenger’s carry-on luggage include items such as scissors, toy gun replicas, knitting needles and darts; anything sharp or dangerous that could be used as a weapon is bound to alert check-in security. Any failure to follow these regulations could see your purchases confiscated!
